Discover - Florensac

Florensac is located on the left bank of the Hérault in Bas-Languedoc wine country, near the sea. Its origins go way back and its name might come from "Fleur en sac" (flower in sack). On the Via Domitia, its attractions include many vestiges of antiquity. Stroll round its little streets 15th, 16th and 17th c. and 18th. c ancestral homes, breathe in the fragrance of gardens, look inside the oddly asymmetrical church of St-John the Baptist, and round it all off simply with a crisp, lively glass of Picpoul, Ressac or dry Muscat!

■ Church of St John the Baptist (rebuilt in the 13th c.), with Romanesque apses.
■ Market hall built in 1913 (Town Hall: 04 67 77 00 15, fax: 04 67 77 86 11).

Activities:

■ Tour of the village: round the walls or round the town by numbered stages.
■ Discover and sample local wines at Vinipolis, an educational and recreational centre equipped with computer terminals dealing with the wine growing process and vines at the winery (Tel. 04 67 77 00 20) or on estates.
■ Dine outdoors in summer; markets on the Promenade shaded by plane trees.
